Anyone up for a slice of Pie?

Yesterday I went and talked with a friend who has moved back from living with his boyfriend in San Francisco. He has moved back, is active in the church, preparing for a mission, and is no longer claiming himself to be gay. He and I talked for about 4 hours and said some interesting things and I have come to the possibility that I may be wrong.

What if I am wrong? What would happen to my life if I were wrong? What if all of this was simply a temptation from Satan? I mean, in my own reconciliation of things I don’t have him playing some role. What if his role isn’t what I think but rather how I am being influenced? With everything that I have seen in my life arranged before me as it is, I can’t think that the Lord would push me away from the Church and Satan would be trying to push me back in. That, logically makes no sense.

Perhaps I need to take a bite of humble pie and learn to follow the common interpretations.

  1. Too cryptic for a response David. If we're honest with ourselves, we all have to live with the possibility that we may be wrong about a lot of things. It's a journey, it's not a static thing. Our knowledge will always be incomplete. You of all people should know that things are more complex than the simplistic tone you're taking here. Yes it's doubtful the Lord would push you away from the Church and Satan would push you back in. OTOH, maybe you need to learn some things that you can't learn in any other path and staying would prevent that. IDK, only you do. Let's talk about all this some more.

I don't mean to sound negative; but, if your friend had been living a gay lifestyle then he will have to get approval from the first presidency before he can submit his mission papers - with a strong likelihood that he will be denied. (gay experimentation in teenage years can be overlooked - gay sex after adulthood usually is not, especially if more than a single incident)

Is your friend is strong enough to remain active in the church - if he is denied the opportunity to serve a mission? Or, could that be a catalyst for him returning to a gay lifestyle?

I'm not saying that you shouldn't reconsider your thoughts and ideas. I'm only suggesting that it's dangerous to compare ourselves to others - especially if we're comparing our whole life (and anticipated future life) to a single point in time for another person.

  3. David,

I have entertained the thought that it really is just Satan tempting me into being gay and having the desires that I have... BUT, I have also asked God for help., on my knees crying and asking for direction IF I am WRONG in the feelings I have towards men. I have never received any feeling that I am wrong when praying only from mankind who try and dicate the Lord's desire...

  6. Your friend is rejecting his true identity(gay). Changing your sexual orientation is very wrong and self-destructive.

Being gay is NOT a "Temptation from the Devil", rather a gift from God.

it makes me want to cry seeing your friend denying his sexuality!

  7. Since there is such a thing as "prison gay", does that mean there can be a "prison straight" of sorts? Where you just make due with what you've told yourself are the limits of possibility. Not exactly an inspiring option, but I guess it exists to some extent.
